Serving our Church and our Community

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
  1 Corinthians 12:4-7

Everyone has God given talents and treasures. God wants to fill us with His Spirit so we will use them for His glory. Think about your special talents and abilities and the ways you could use them for God's work in the world. Below is a list of the different opportunities at Bethany. We encourage you to prayerfully consider becoming part of a team.

Church Council- Bethany’s Church Council is responsible for the establishment of policy and the development of strategic plans for Bethany Lutheran Ministries, which includes the Church, Preschool and School.

Ministry Advisory Team- Our Ministry Advisory Team is a group of men appointed by Pastor Stringer. Some of our responsibilities include: overseeing the spiritual health of our memebers and ministries, assisting Pastor as he ministers through Word and Sacrament. We also provide encouragement and counsel in caring for our pastor and his family.

School Advisory Team- The SAT is responsible to the senior pastor and works in conjunction with the school’s principal to aid him/her in fulfilling the goals of the school with the emphasis on the growth and improvement of our educational ministry.

Business Advisory Team- The BAT reviews the pertinent business items such as budget, contracts, planning, etc. There are seven members on the team and they meet the first Monday of the month.

Worship Committee- The focus of the Worship Committee is to provide meaningful and enriching worship services for all attendees. The committee is responsible for planning and overseeing the worship experience including altar guild, music, special service planning, and review of member feedback.

Merciful Services- Seeks to actively engage the congregation in meeting Bethany’s Mission of “Living God’s Word through Caring, Sharing and Teaching.” Join the efforts in caring for the bodies & souls of our hungry neighbors; sponsoring special drives (tornado relief & winter outer clothing); and donating a Christmas tree to the Festival of the Trees event hosted by Opportunity House. Merciful services also oversees the visitation team that ministers to our homebound members.

Altar Guild- The Altar Guild serves God and the congregation by ensuring the place of worship is maintained and prepared for the different seasons of the church year. We do this, not for ourselves but for the glory of God and the strengthening of His people.

Parish Health- Our goal is to achieve physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing in each person, that reflects God’s love. This is accomplished by promoting the health and wellness to our congregation and surrounding communities through education, health screenings, community resources, spiritual leadership and outreach through spiritually based values.

Endowment- This committee oversees Bethany’s Endowment Fund which is designed with the sole purpose of strengthening our ministries for generations to come through planned giving.

Fellowship- Provides opportunities for members and nonmembers to come together and break bread and enjoy the company of all. This committee hosts many of Bethany’s numerous lunches, dinners and Sunday coffee hour.

Finance- The Finance Committee is responsible for the fiscal oversight of the ministry. It serves as a faithful steward of the resources bestowed upon our ministry, which includes the Church, Preschool and Elementary School.

Life Management- LMC is a Call To Action and exists to serve the Church and Jesus Christ in finding ways to fulfill our individual commitments in accordance with Holy Scripture. Emphasis is on the Stewardship of all that God has given us and to instill the concept of cheerful giving to our children & families through the prayerful study of God’s Word.

Lutheran Women's Missionary League- The mission of the LWML is to assist each woman in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world. LWML programs include: the Bethany Craft Faire, Valentines for Soldiers and much more.

Youth Ministries- Activities are meeting Sunday mornings and participating in a study of God's Word. Periodic Sunday evening activities and meals are scheduled with fun activities followed by a devotional thought related to the activity. Local community projects and trips are also a part of these programs.

Children's Ministries- Sunday school classes are available for children in preschool through eighth grade. Sunday school begins at 10am in the Sanctuary. Bethany also has a church nursery open during both Sunday morning services. Both the Sunday school program and the nursery are always looking for youth and adults who love kids and would like to serve in these two areas.

Audio/Visual team- The Audio/Visual team enhances the worship service by providing Powerpoint shows with song lyrics, Scripture passages, and other visual aids. The team also records services to DVD for homebound members and operates the sound board.
